On Sunday, February 20, 2022, Haiti’s Council of Ministers, led by Prime Minister Dr. Ariel Henry, convened to establish the new minimum wage standards for Haiti’s various labor segments.

The F segment, being one of Haiti’s largest employment groups, always receives a great deal of scrutiny, especially as it relates to the working conditions and benefits set forth for factory workers in this group.

The F segment primary includes people employed in the labor of export oriented assembly & other export-oriented manufacturing industries.

Once the new minimum wage standards take effect, workers in the F segment will see their minimum pay rise from 500 to 685 Haitian gourdes per day for an 8 hour workday, which represents a nearly 37% increase over the previously established rate.

There were calls by some worker rights activists in this group to raise the minimum wage by at least three-fold to 1,500 gourdes per day, citing widespread inflationary pressure on the cost of living & other economic factors since the last time minimum wage rates were set.

A complete list of the new minimum wage standards set forth for each segment can be reviewed here in the council’s official publication. (le salaire minimum en haiti)
