In Haitian Creole, “lakay” means “home.” If someone wishes to say “my home” in Haitian Creole, they would say “lakay mwen.”

Likewise, when referring to a “house,” you would use the term “kay.” To say “my house” in Haitian Creole, you would say “kay mwen”.

In Haitian Creole, referring to someone’s “house” vs someone’s “home” is an important distinction. “lakay” can be considered any place someone resides or considers home. The term “kay” refers explicitly to an actual “house.”
