Haitian men, especially those born and raised in Haiti, are very traditional and primarily adhere to patriarchal cultural norms that reflect established roles for men and women.
What some might consider to be an old-fashioned approach to dating, these defined roles are still regarded as modern and relevant to Haitian men, especially in today’s more open and adaptive dating environment.
Haitian men will typically expect that a woman knows how to cook. You don’t necessarily have to be a chef to cook Haitian food, but an eagerness to learn how to cook various traditional dishes is a plus.
If he knows how to cook, he will likely do the same for you.
Haitian men also appreciate it when a woman takes the initiative to take care of the day-to-day functions of running the household, such such as cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the kids.
This does not mean he will not help you, but the woman is expected to take the initiative to handle the day-to-day functions of running the family. Many Haitian men will also gladly assist in completing these tasks.
Likewise, Haitian men enjoy being catered to. Don’t worry; they will typically go above and beyond to please you just as well. We love it when our women are happy and satisfied.
Are Haitian men controlling?
Haitian men also tend to be very protective and patriarchal in that they always want to feel like the head of the family.
This doesn’t mean that we’re controlling; it’s simply a way of establishing a sense of leadership, security, and stability for the family or relationship.

In conclusion, many Haitian men place a firm emphasis on family. Most are very protective of their women, kids, and other immediate family members.
They are also leaders, hard workers, providers, and passionate people in their respective communities.
So if you are looking to date a Haitian man or are currently in a relationship with one, these are just some of the most common characteristics you might encounter.
These personalities are not reflective of every Haitian man but a little piece of my experience as a Haitian man and a consensus shared by my male Haitian friends and family members.
