Haiti PM condemns the assassination of slain journalists

In a tweet, Prime Minister Dr. Ariel Henry condemned the assassinations of Haitian journalists Amady John Wesley and Wilguens Louissaint in the area of Laboule 12.

The PM offered his condolences to the family and friends of the victims, as well as to the press community as a whole.

The PM also reiterated that the Haitian National Police (PNH) must increase it’s efforts to prevent these types of violent crimes.

Haitian National Police recover remains of slain journalists

The PNH confirmed that they have recovered the corpses of the two journalists murdered last week in Laboule 12.

The PNH also published a video showing its agents carrying out the recovery effort for the bodies of the two slain journalists.

Kidnapped bus passengers released after police operation

The PNH issued a press release informing the public that the passengers of the Saint-Jean Baptiste bus, kidnapped in the early morning hours of January 8, have been released.

A police operation carried out on Saturday led to the release of the passengers. It is unclear if all or only some of the kidnapped passengers were freed.

During the operation, several firearms were seized, including an assault rifle stamped with the PNH insignia.

The Saint-Jean Baptiste bus provides transportation between Jean-Rabel (North West Department) to the capital city of Port-au-Prince in the West Department of Haiti.
